.gov domains: what they serve
We visit every registered .gov domain and note what a visitor would see. Then we count how many of the working sites Jurisdictional already covers.
Exploratory. These are our own checks, not an official measure.

What 16,909 domains served
One visit to each domain, following redirects.
| Working site | 10,402 | 61.5% |
| Redirects to another site | 1,623 | 9.6% |
| Parked page | 496 | 2.9% |
| Server default page | 159 | 0.9% |
| Error response | 1,276 | 7.5% |
| Unreachable | 705 | 4.2% |
| No DNS | 2,248 | 13.3% |
1,779 of the 14,366 domains that resolve have an HTTPS certificate that doesn't verify. Browsers refuse to open a .gov site over plain HTTP, so most of these don't load at all.
