What is a Juricode?

A Juricode is the set of governments whose boundaries contain one address. Like a ZIP code identifies a postal zone, a Juricode names the layers on file for that point.

The list is the boundaries we can resolve today: nation, state, congressional and legislative districts, county, city, and school district when those shapes are loaded. It can be incomplete. Special districts join the list only when we have a boundary for them. Officials and agencies are recorded deeply in a handful of cities and thinly elsewhere.

You live inside more governments than you can name.

The U.S. Census counts roughly 90,000 governments. About 39,000 are the ones you'd expect — the nation, your state, your county, your city.

The other 51,000 are quieter. Around 38,000 are special districts — water, fire protection, mosquito abatement, libraries, cemeteries, levees. Some levy taxes, and some elect a board. This site does not say what you owe or what is on your ballot.

No single agency can tell you which ones govern your address. Resolving that requires standing above all of them at once. That is what this is for.
